Research on scientific basis of spatial planning for development of coastal zone towards harmony between spaces formainland socio-economic development and marine economic development

1. Objectives of the study:Clarify the scientific basis for marine spatial planning topropose solutions for improvement of public policies which facilitate spatial planning in coastal zone in Vietnam.2. Object and scope of research3. Research Methodologies:- Theoretical research method- Systems analysis method- Consensus method4. Contents of the study:- Analyse and summarise the comparative advantages regarding natural, economic and social conditions of coastal zone; define the dynamics of coastal zone development.- Research on international experiences of marine spatial planning in other countries. Analyse lesson-learnt and recommendations for the application of spatial planning in coastal zones in Vietnam. - Propose scientific basis and rationale for coastal areas zoning: spatial scale, components, development drives; determination of orientation to ecosystem-based functional zoning for development planning in coastal zones.5. Achievements:-The results of the research are recommendations for the improvement of spatial planning of coastal regions in order to prepare for further in-depth study at higher level: setting the basis for the development of future research such as improving the system of criteria, principles and approaches of marine management zoning such as functional zoning, ecological zoning for integrated management of marine resources and environment.- Synthesis report and thematic reports6.
