Identification of direction and roadmap of functional zoning implementation as a basis for sustainable development planning

Objective: Identification of practical needs and rationale for the direction and roadmap of functional zoning implementation based on ecological characteristics, natural resources potential and climate change adaptation as a basis for the sustainable development planning in Vietnam.Research Contents:- Research on rationale and scientific basis funtional zone, criteria for funtional zone determination, the approach, methods and stages of functional zoning implementation.- Review, analyze and evaluate the practical funtional zoning in Vietnam; identify shortcoming and lesson-learnt.- Investigate and review the groups of natural conditions, important ecosystems, natural resources potential and risks of climate change for the direction identification of functional zoning in Vietnam.- Investigate, analyze and identify the natural, economic, social and environmental issues which result from the deficient or improper ecological funtional zoning.- Research on international experiences on funtional zoning for sustainable development planning.- Determine the scope, scale and types of functional zones; the criteria, direction, methods, resources and roadmap for funtional zoning implementation in Vietnam.- Develop the project of “Funtional zoning implementation for sustainable development planning in Vietnam” to submit to Prime Minister.Project results:(In progress of implementation) Level of management: MinisterialDuration: 2014 – 2016
