Over the past few years, Vietnam has mainstreamed low carbon development activities into their relevant government institutions, academia and research institutes. However, this is not sufficient because basic methodologies and best practices for low carbon development have not been widely introduced and adopted in VietnamTherefore, Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment (ISPONRE), in partnership with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), Okayama University and Kyoto University of Japan, University of Technology Malaysia (UTM), jointly organized a seminar on ‘‘Capacity Building on Low Carbon Planning’’ that took place on 28 April 2016 in Hai Phong City, Vietnam.
The objectives of the seminar were to introduce basic concepts on low carbon planning and co-benefit analysis for low carbon policies implemented at national and sub-national levels while highlight the importance of enhancing human capacity in long-term development of low carbon policies. Participants were also given the opportunity to explore best practices and management approaches for low carbon development in countries with economic background similar to Vietnam.
The seminar was a great success and welcomed around 50 participants, including representatives of environmental departments and other research institutes.
