Workshop on Building Capacity on GHG mitigation policy planning

Hanoi, September 13, 2016. Under the framework of the Project to Support the Planning and Implementation of NAMAs in a MRVable Manner (SPI-NAMA) conducted by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and supported by Kyoto University; ISPONRE co-organized the workshop Building Capacity on GHG mitigation policy planning with Department of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change (MONRE) and Hai Phong Environment and Natural Resources Department. The workshop took place in 2 days, from 12th to 13th September in Hai Phong City. 

Generally speaking,  the objectives of this workshop was to: (i) provide an overview of NAMAs (Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions) in Vietnam and other countries in the context of sustainable development, (ii) identify, propose and assess the feasibility of each GHG mitigation option in different sectors, (iii) Understand all the necessary requirements of NAMAs, its steps and how to apply into practice.

The majority of participants were staff working in the field of environment management in Hai Phong and individuals involved in the industrial process of high energy consumption and emissions. This training course provided basic knowledge of climate change status, emissions inventory and GHG commitments of Vietnam mentioned in the country’s INDC report. Participants were also given the opportunity to be familiar with various methods of scenario planning for climate change adaptation, to acquire useful information about current development plans in Vietnam, and technological and financial sources for climate change.
